Assistant Professor of Mathematics (Pure Math) - College of Staten Island, The City University of New YorkThe Mathematics Department of the College of Staten Island, a senior college of The City University of New York (CUNY), invites applications for a tenure-track position in pure mathematics, to begin September 2009 at the rank of Assistant Professor. Required: Ph.D. in mathematics and demonstrated excellence in research and teaching. The successful candidate will present credentials appropriate for appointment to the doctoral faculty of the CUNY Graduate Center. Postdoctoral experience is desirable. The College of Staten Island offers degrees through the Master’s in the liberal arts, sciences, and professional studies to 13,000 students and participates in doctoral programs through the CUNY Graduate Center in midtown Manhattan. The College of Staten Island, located in New York City's fastest-growing borough, offers the cultural attractions and breadth of New York City from a park-like 204-acre campus, with free transportation available to and from Manhattan. The campus is less than an hour from Columbia University, NYU/Courant, the CUNY Graduate Center, Princeton University/IAS and Rutgers University. The College of Staten Island is home to the Verrazano School and participates in the University's Macaulay Honors College. The College’s advanced, networked infrastructure supports technology-based teaching, learning, and research. The Department of Mathematics has 25 full-time faculty, conducting research in diverse areas of pure and applied mathematics. Tenure Track Assistant Professorship in Statistics, SWARTHMORE COLLEGE The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Swarthmore is very pleased to announce a tenure track line in statistics beginning Fall 2009. This replaces one of the two 3-year visiting positions announced earlier. Our institution, with 1400 students, will then have 3 tenure lines in statistics. Final administrative approval is pending and fully expected in January (despite current financial retrenchment in academia). This tenure-track appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor; in an exceptional case, a more senior appointment may be considered. A Ph.D. in Statistics completed or nearly completed by the starting date is expected. Applicants should have a record of excellence in both scholarship and undergraduate teaching, including experience teaching introductory statistics courses. The teaching load is three sections of courses in one semester and two sections in the other; it is often possible to teach multiple sections of the same course in a given semester. Lecturer in Mathematics and Mathematics Education - University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill The Department of Mathematics at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks applicants for a position in Mathematics and Mathematics Education to be effective on or after July 1, 2009. The duties of the position will include designing and teaching a course on mathematics pedagogy to train mathematics majors for secondary school teaching, a practicum course on mathematics pedagogy, participation in the joint teacher training program between the UNC School of Education and the UNC Department of Mathematics, and possibly assisting in the training of graduate teaching assistants in mathematics and teaching in the Mathematics Department. Preferred qualifications include a Ph.D. in Mathematics, or M.S. in Mathematics with a Ph.D. in Education, and with extensive experience in mathematics education and knowledge of mathematics education research. Secondary school mathematics teaching experience and familiarity with current approaches to secondary school mathematics teaching theory, curriculum planning and implementation, and assessment are highly desirable. Visiting Assistant Professors - Cornell University The probability group at Cornell (Rick Durrett, Laurent Saloff-Coste, Phillip Protter, Sid Resnick and Gennady Samorodnitsky) is looking for recent PhD recipients for postdoc positions (Visiting Assistant Professors) beginning July 1, 2009. Faculty Position - Weill Cornell Medical College In a pioneering international initiative, the Weill Cornell Medical College (WCMC) established the Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar (WCMC-Q) with the sponsorship of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development. WCMC-Q is located in Doha, Qatar, and in its seventh year of operation, its inaugural class having graduated with Cornell MD degrees in May 2008. WCMC-Q seeks candidates for a full-time senior level faculty position to teach in Doha in the Pre-medical Program, with major responsibility for teaching mathematics to premedical students. The two-year Pre-medical Program is designed to prepare students for admission to the WCMC-Q Medical Program. Intensive and challenging, this two-year program has been specifically prepared for students in the Middle East. It provides them with instruction in subjects that comprise the pre-medical requirements of most medical colleges in the US. The successful candidate will teach one course per semester at the level of college calculus and introductory statistics. In addition, he/she will participate in student academic advising, committee work, and the academic life of WCMC-Q. Staff research scientist - The Oak Ridge National Laboratory The Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in partnership with the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) is soliciting applications for a staff research scientist with a joint faculty appointment at the Joint Institute of Computational Sciences, University of Tennessee (JICS).
