The USAP Grantee Alert letter describes the impacts, which are expected based on the anticipated budget situation, on support for the 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 Antarctic seasons. These impacts were discussed at the August 12, 2008 meeting of the National Science Board.

International Polar Year (IPY) Sea Ice Day
The International IPY Committee has scheduled a regular sequence of "International Polar Days" to raise awareness and provide information about particular and timely aspects of the polar regions. The first International Polar Day, on September 21, 2007, will focus on sea ice. A new web site with information for the press and educators, details of current projects and expeditions, contact details for scientists in the polar regions and around the world, images, background information, and useful links and resources is available at http://www.ipy.org/index.php?/ipy/detail/sea_ice .

NSF Office of Polar Programs Announces Organizational Name Changes
On October 29, 2006, the National Science Foundation (NSF) changed the names of the sections within the Office of Polar Programs (OPP) as follows:
- The Antarctic Sciences Section is now the Division of Antarctic Sciences.
- The Polar Research Support Section is now the Division of Antarctic Infrastructure and Logistics.
- The Environment, Safety and Health Section is now the Office of Polar Environment, Health and Safety.
- The Arctic Sciences Section is now the Division of Arctic Sciences.
All personnel email addresses and telephone numbers remain the same. |
