U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao and U.S.
Secretary of Commerce Don Evans Tour Johnson Controls Manufacturing Plant
Manufacturing plant in China creates jobs for
American Workers, Highlights Value of Worker Protections
BEIJINGU.S. Secretary
of Labor Elaine L. Chao, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Don Evans and members of
the Presidents Economic Council toured the Johnson Controls Inc.
manufacturing facility today located just outside Beijing, China. The facility
assembles U.S. manufactured components into seating for Beijing Hyundai Motors
Company and acts as a forwarding warehouse to the Beijing Jeep Plant. The tour
is part of a four-day visit to the Peoples Republic of China by a
high-level delegation of U.S. Labor Department officials led by U.S. Secretary
of Labor Elaine L. Chao.
This facility is an example of how constructive engagement can
create jobs in the United States and promote worker protections and improve
core labor standards in China, said U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao.
Johnson Controls is exporting not only U.S.-made parts and components to
China, but also American values on core labor standards and worker protections.
American-run facilities in China that promote worker health and safety are a
powerful expression of the standards expected of a world-class
economy.
The vehicle seating produced for the Beijing Hyundai Motors Company
vehicles contains the following U.S. produced components: DOW produced foam
chemicals; Raytek quality control temperature gauges; Key Safety Systems side
air bags; and the Rockwell Automation management information system that
manages the plants sequence, build and delivery systems.
All of the component parts shipped to the Beijing Jeep Plants
seating assembly area are manufactured in the United States and demonstrate
that U.S. jobs are being created and worker health and safety standards are
being followed. Johnson Controls Inc. has six other manufacturing facilities
throughout China. By early 2005, the Beijing Jeep assembly will move to the
Beijing Johnson Controls Inc. manufacturing facility.
