U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao Recognized by FOP for Her Support of Law Enforcement Officials

PHILADELPHIA—U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao was honored by the National Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) with the President’s Award at the National FOP Spring Board Meeting in Philadelphia, PA. FOP National President Chuck Canterbury presented the award to Secretary Chao.

“I am deeply honored to be associated with the Fraternal Order of Police, the largest law enforcement union in this country, in accepting this prestigious award,” said Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao. “I am proud of the excellent working relationship the Department of Labor and the Fraternal Order of Police share. I have great respect and admiration for the men and women in blue who put their lives on the line every day to ensure safety in our communities. The FOP’s commitment to those who work in law enforcement is second to none.”

Since 1915, the FOP has conferred fewer than 15 President’s awards. Secretary Chao was chosen for her steadfast and unwavering support of the rights of rank and file law enforcement officers and her efforts to provide assistance to the survivors of law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

“Secretary Chao and her dedicated staff have a genuine interest in and concern for law enforcement labor issues,” said FOP National President Chuck Canterbury. “This Labor Department has an open door policy to the FOP. There has never been an occasion where the Secretary, or other Labor officials, have been unable or unwilling to reply to an inquiry to address one of our concerns.”

The Fraternal Order of Police is the world's largest organization of sworn law enforcement officers, with more than 310,000 members in more than 2,100 lodges. They are the voice of those who dedicate their lives to protecting and serving our communities. The FOP is committed to improving the working conditions of law enforcement officers and the safety of those they serve through education, legislation, information, community involvement, and employee representation.
