Statement of Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao on
Passage of the Small Business Health Fairness Act
WASHINGTON—“Today,
the House of Representatives passed with bipartisan support H.R. 660, the Small
Business Health Fairness Act. I commend the House for their quick action in
passing this important legislation.
I want to commend the hard work and dedication of Congressman Ernie
Fletcher (R-Ky.), who wrote the bill; as well as Chairman John Boehner
(R-Ohio), Chairman Sam Johnson (R-Texas), Congressman Cal Dooley (D-Calif.) and
Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez (D-N.Y.) for their efforts to improve the health
care of America's workers.
“President Bush and I are committed to increasing the number of
insured, and this House bill paves the way for millions of American small
business workers to gain access to affordable, quality health care coverage.
Following the House’s success, I urge the Senate to act swiftly to pass
the companion legislation, S. 545, introduced by Senator Olympia Snowe
(R-Maine) so health care coverage can be a reality for American workers and
their families.”
