U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao On April Unemployment
Numbers
WASHINGTON—U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao released
the following statement on the April unemployment numbers released today:
“This is the most broadly positive jobs report we've seen in some time.
The 274,000 new jobs created are way above market forecasts, hours worked
are at their highest levels since 2002, and workers' average hourly earnings
continued to increase.
“It is interesting to note that the labor force increased substantially,
yet because of strong job growth the unemployment rate remained stable
at 5.2%.”
