Industrial Pretreatment Conference Background

EPA Region 8 and the Colorado Industrial Pretreatment Coordinators Association (CIPCA) annually co-sponsor a workshop to address the varied needs of municipal pretreatment personnel. Advanced to basic pretreatment training, discussions, and presentations are provided by local, state, and federal government representatives, as well as, experts from outside the government. The attendees are generally POTW and state employees responsible for administering Industrial Pretreatment Programs as required by the Federal pretreatment regulations 40 CFR Part 403.

Region 8 - 18th Annual Pretreatment Conference

The 18th Annual Pretreatment Conference was held in Durango, CO on May 6-8, 2008. The conference was attended by local pretreatment professionals within Region 8 as well as local pretreatment professionals from Region 9 and 10.

The location and presentations made this year's conference one to the best in recent memory. Durango is a very fun and exciting place to be in May. Every morning, the conference attendees were greeted or in some cases, woken up by the train leaving the station. The train station was only 2 blocks away from the hotel.

The conference presentations included EPA updates and training as well as EPA enforcement presentations. In addition, local pretreatment personnel gave presentations regarding their implementation of the pretreatment regulations in identification, permitting, and enforcement of industrial users within their service area.
