About the TAP Office

The Tribal Assistance Program (TAP) Office was created in 1995.Buffalo Image It was formed in response to expanding tribal environmental needs and to fulfill the Agency's statutory responsibilities of ensuring public health and environmental protection on Indian reservations. The Office serves as the point-of-contact for tribes within Region 8. The TAP Office serves as a central coordination point for tribal environmental issues among EPA staff, tribal representatives and the public. It assists Region 8 tribes through grants assistance and management, training, technical assistance and coordination or liaison services with other programs. Staff in the EPA Region 8 Montana Office serve the tribes in that State.

Tribal Program Managers (TPM's) in the TAP and Montana Offices serve as project officers on cooperative agreements and grants under the Clean Air, Clean Water, Pesticides, Hazardous Waste and General Assistance grant programs. TPM's are also involved in a wide variety of regional and national issues to ensure implementation of the EPA Indian Policy across all levels of the Agency. This includes the articulation and elevation of tribal environmental protection needs to ensure implementation of the EPA's responsibilities.

Information about Grants and Financial Assistance available to tribal governments is provided on the Region 8 website. This includes media-based and programmatic grants, and guidance on the tribal grants found on our Tribal Grants page.
