Description
Formerly the Bureau of Health Care Delivery and Assistance, the BPHC serves as a national focus for efforts to ensure delivery of health care services to residents of medically underserved areas and to special groups. The Bureau assists States and local communities in providing health care to medically underserved populations through health centers. Through project grants, it provides funds to help State, local, voluntary, public, and private entities meet health needs of special populations such as migrant workers, black lung disease victims, the homeless, and high risk pregnant women. It provides direction for the Bureau of Prisons medical program, the national Hansen's disease program, and the Federal Employee Occupational Health Program.
