Witness the wild splendor of spring blooms and wildlife as it emerges from hibernation. Take a moonlit walk within the camp and hear the magical sounds of the forest on a warm summer night. Immerse yourself in the vibrancy of fall as the leaves turn scarlet and golden against an azure sky and season the air with their fragrance. Tell stories around a campfire under a blanket of stars on a chilly night. We welcome you to do all of this and more during your stay at historic Camp Misty Mount.
 

2009 Misty Mount camping season is April 10, 2009 (Friday - Sunday) and May 4, 2009 (Monday - Sunday) through November 1, 2009.  The swimming pool is open May 22, 2009 to September 8, 2009.

Reservations

Cabins at Misty Mount can be reserved the first business day in January by calling (301) 271-3140 or mailing an application.  Walk-in registrations will be accepted based on facility availability.  Organized group reservations are accepted the first business day of December. The full rental fee will be due on the date specified on the permit. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.

Cancellations or Refunds

No refunds will be allowed unless the Park is unable to provide the facility. If you cancel at least 24 hours before your reservation, every effort will be made to reschedule once during the current season.

Camp Description

Camp Misty Mount is comprised of three main camping areas, the upper, middle and lower loops, each comprising 7 or 8 cabins, 1 restroom/shower facility and 1 lodge. A few cabins are secluded and isolated from the main loops. The dining hall is located adjacent to the middle and lower loops and the swimming pool is between the middle and upper loops. The pool complex also contains the showers/restrooms for the upper loop. A campfire circle is north of the upper loop. The camp office is located just off the main road and the camp hosts’ quarters are nearby, centrally located between the office and the pool.

Occupants are liable for damage to cabins, lodges, cabin/lodge equipment and any camp facilities/fixtures.

Accommodations

Camp Misty Mount offers rustic wood and stone cabins for camping, equipped with single metal cots with mattresses. Each has a light in the ceiling and on the porch. Electric outlets are NOT available. A grill, fire ring and picnic table are located outside each cabin. Facilities for dishwashing, drinking water, hot showers and flush toilets are provided centrally in each of the three loop areas.

Campers must provide bedding, charcoal, cookware, ice and coolers for food storage, water containers and first-aid supplies.  There are 19 four-cot cabins, 5 three-cot cabins, 1 six-cot cabin, 3 eight-cot lodges and 1 eight-cot lodge with 2 bathrooms. Cabin 44 and Lodge 42 is wheelchair accessible. Extra cots are not available. Cabin occupancy is limited to the same number of campers as the number of cots provided.

Check-In and Check Out

Check-in: 3:00 pm (first day of the rental period)

Check out: 12:00pm - noon (last day of the rental period)

 

Camp Office Hours:

 

Sunday – Thursday       11:30 am – 8:00 pm for check-ins

Friday – Saturday         8:30 am – 10:00 pm for check-ins

 

The camp gate will be closed and secured at 10:00 pm. Your cabin key will open the lock on the gate.

 

Vehicles

 

No motorized vehicles are permitted in cabin areas except for immediate loading and unloading. One vehicle per cabin and two vehicles per lodge are allowed in the parking area.

 

Parking is restricted to the two parking lots provided.

 

Pool

 

The swimming pool is open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. Hours and regulations will be posted. There is no lifeguard on duty. Pool use is done at the swimmer’s own risk and responsibility. Supervision is advised.

 

Camp Etiquette

 

The Park appreciates your help in keeping the campground clean and attractive. Please help us by:

  • Disposing of trash in the dumpster outside of the Dining Hall.
  • Leaving cabins, lodges and common areas in a clean condition.
  • Adhering to the quiet time of 10:00 pm – 6:00 am.

 

The following are prohibited in Camp Misty Mount: 

  • Pets
  • Hunting and weapons
  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Camping trailers or pitched tent
  • Removal of picnic tables, beds or mattresses
  • Soliciting for fund-raising
  • Removal of trees, shrubs, wildflowers, rocks; historical, pre-historic, cultural and/or natural resources.

Historic Camp Misty Mount is a National Historic District. Please help us preserve and protect this valuable national treasure.

Fires

Catoctin Mountain Park has banned the use of firewood form outside the Park. This ban will protect the forest from destructive insects that could have a devastating effect on Park trees. Don't worry though, you can still make s'mores! Firewood is available for a fee of $5 per bucket. For more information:

Wood fires are permitted in the fire circles at each cabin. Dead and down wood may be used. Do not cut any standing trees. Do not bring any outside wood into the park. Charcoal fires are permitted in grills only. All fires must be extinguished before leaving cabin area. No cooking, camp stoves or heaters are allowed in the cabins or lodges, except where such equipment is provided for this purpose. Please restrict smoking to the fire circle area outside of the buildings.

Deputy Sheriff Clyde L. Hauver was the first Frederick County, Maryland, Deputy to be killed in the line of duty. He was leading a raid on the Blue Blazes Whiskey Still on July 31, 1929 when he was shot and killed.
