2008 North American WUFI workshops

September 25-26, 2008 - Miami Beach, FL WUFI Brochure

WUFI Pro Workshops -

WUFI workshops -  computer modeling of hygrothermal (moisture and heat) transfer through walls.  These workshops, with instruction provided by Oak Ridge National Laboratory  (ORNL) of the United States and the Fraunhofer Institute of Building Physics in Germany, are sponsored by  the U.S. Department of Energy, the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) /Building Enclosure Technology and Environment Council (BETEC) and others.  Each student brings his/her own laptop, receives software with a temporary license, and will run simulations.  The computer modeling enables the user to diagnose or design wall configurations within a user-specified geographic region for which NOAA has gathered weather data for decades.  Even mold growth in the building can be predicted using this model.

ORNL Material Database for Whole Building Energy Calculations

The old version of the ORNL Whole Wall Thermal Performance calculator has been replaced by an updated new whole wall R-value calculation tool. The new calculator will be a part of the newly developed Interactive Envelope Materials Database for Whole-Building Energy Simulation Programs. It will offer many new advancements over the old tool, including the capability of whole wall calculations for complex residential buildings (fourteen new architectural details, three types of foundations, five shapes of floor plans, multi-story building options, etc.).  The new material database will provide a direct link between existing hotbox testing results, advanced three-dimensional heat transfer simulations, and whole building energy analysis. Only hotbox tested wall systems will be represented in this new database. A Thermal Mass Calculator has also been added to more fully represent the Whole Building Energy Calculations. More info...
