Staff Engineer: Building Envelopes Program (BEP); employed at ORNL since 1974; recent activities include assessing the long-term durability and energy efficiency of various roofing systems using field and laboratory reflectance measurements
Responsibilities:
Responsible for the set-up, operation, and analysis of experiments in the Rotatable Guarded Hot Box (RGHB) and for the instrumentation of field experiments, including infrared thermography and solar reflectance measurements

Program Manager: Building Envelopes Program (BEP); Prior to joining the Buildings Technology Center in 1991, he was the manager of the Thermophysics Laboratory at Holometrix, Inc., where he conducted research on the thermophysical properties of materials and systems with an emphasis on reflective insulation systems and fenestration products

Areas of research include in-situ testing protocols, the development of standardized means of determining the long-term thermal performance of closed cell plastic foams, and the impacts of moisture in low-slope roof systems

Design, execute and analyze experiments in the Large-Scale Climate Simulator (LSCS) - see Residential Attics and Cathedral Ceilings Program; author of solar radiation control fact sheet and interactive estimating tool for low-slope roofs - see Reflective Roofing Systems Program; conducted year long side-by-side test of houses with conventional wood-framed walls and houses with alternative technologies such as insulating concrete form walls and autoclaved aerated concrete walls and validated DOE2 models of houses - see Advanced Walls Systems Program

    Therese Stovall     stovalltk@ornl.gov

Senior Research Engineer: Therese K. Stovall is a member of the Building Envelopes Program at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Her efforts are directed at material and system property measurements and computer modeling. She is responsible for the DOE Insulation Fact Sheet, the second most requested document published by DOE, and has contributed to a more accurate characterization of evacuated insulation panels. She also supports ORNL’s distributed generation programs

Previously, Therese supported the Advanced Neutron Source program and managed the Ice Storage Test Facility, a commercial ice storage testing program sponsored by the Electric Power Research Institute. She received a patent for a load management method using wallboard containing a phase change material. Ms. Stovall served as a member of the Hood River Conservation Project Advisory Council. Her work in the energy conservation field included development of the Residential Conservation Service Model Audit. She served as a Technical Support Representative for HUD's District Heating Program, helping city planners identify and assess district heating applications. She coauthored the PRESTO turbine cycle analysis code, which received a Certificate of Recognition from NASA
Responsibilities / Research Programs:
Contributes to laboratory evaluations of a variety of insulation materials - see Existing Insulation Materials Performance Program; supports the Department of Energy's Distributed Energy Resources Program
Education:
Therese Stovall received her B.S.M.E. with distinction from Purdue University in 1977, where she participated in the co-op program. She received her M.S.M.E. from the University of Tennessee in 1988 and is a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Tennessee. She is also a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the American Society for Testing and Materials, and the American Society of Heating Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers

Teresa has worked in the Buildings Technology Center since February 2005; she has over 16 years experience in secretarial duties, office management and computer application packages. Teresa previously worked for the Chief Information Officer in the Information System and Technology Department at BWXT-Y12.

Teresa was a 2007 finalist in the YWCA Tribute to Women.
