Challenge Cost Share

Challenge Cost Share is a program offering federal funding, to be matched 50/50, for preservation and interpretation/education projects along the Santa Fe National Historic Trail.

Applying for project funding

Don't be frightened by the forms! Instructions are provided, and help is available from staff at the National Trail System-Intermountain office in Santa Fe.

The submission deadline is March 2, 2009, for FY09 (October 1, 2008 through September 30, 2009). Contact our office to discuss your project prior to submitting your completed proposal.

After the Mexican-American War ended in 1848, the United States acquired almost half of Mexico's lands, including New Mexico. Trade and military freighting on the historic Santa Fe Trail boomed, with both firms and individuals obtaining and subcontracting lucrative government contracts.
