Brief Summary: The ARCHS Regional Excess Medication Disposal Service (RxMEDS) pilot proposes to have community grocery stores the Schnuck Markets, serve as the collection sites for unwanted medications over an 18 month period.  ARCHS plans to create an efficient regional model that removes and disposes of unwanted medications and informs citizens of related health and environmental issues.  The St Louis College of Pharmacy will be involved in the collection and inventory of the unwanted or unused medications. Cintas Corporation will provide environmental waste containers for each collection site.

Environmental Outcomes:  Public awareness of an issue that affects the region but has not been addresses on a major scale.  Remove medications that harm the environment and pose a health hazard. A long term outcome is expected to be a shift in the advertising by major pharmaceutical companies towards an improved disposal method for unused medications.
