Description

The statutory functions of the U.S. National Commission on Libraries and Information Science (NCLIS) include the following: to identify the needs of the people of the U.S. for library and information services; translate those needs into recommended national policy; and advise the President, the Congress, state and local governments and others on implementation of national and international policy. These functions are achieved through research and analyses of the library and information needs of the nation and the ability of the current system to supply those needs. NLICS also conducts hearings and issues publications.
