Description

The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), founded in 1971, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing the public with information about food safety, the food industry, and government regulation of food. Its goal is to improve the quality of the American diet through public education at both the national and local levels. CSPI monitors food legislation and regulations, publicizes food problems through the media, and initiates actions designed to improve governmental and corporate policies. CSPI also has an Alcohol Policies Project that seeks to reduce the toll of alcohol problems. The project provides the public with information about the marketing and taxation of alcoholic beverages. CSPI's Agricultural Biotechnology project monitors developments in that field and its Integrity in Science investigates industry influence over the scientific process and seeks to restore objectivity to the regulatory machinery that relies on science.
