Description

The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) is a nonprofit, multi-disciplinary professional membership organization. ASCM is dedicated to generating and disseminating knowledge concerning the motivation, responses, adaptations, and health aspects of persons engaged in sport and exercise. ACSM sponsors an annual meeting, a team physician's conference, a variety of workshops and lecture tours; provides continuing medical education; certifies program directors, exercise specialists, exercise test technologists, health/fitness directors, instructors, and aerobic exercise leaders. The ASCM also sponsors a new investigator award, a visiting scholar award, honor awards, and citations. The ASCM has 12 regional chapters.

ACSM issues position stands and opinion statements dealing with a variety of sports medicine topics. Serial publications: Sports Medicine Bulletin, quarterly--contains calendar information, features, conference news, book reviews, and editorials; Medicine and Science in Sport and Exercise (journal), bimonthly--official journal of the ASCM; Exercise and Sport Sciences Reviews, annually--provides current discoveries in the clinical, physiological, biochemical, and biomechanical and behavioral aspects of sports medicine.
