Mr. Eric S. Edelman assumed duties as the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy on August 9, 2005. Prior to becoming the USD(P), Mr. Edelman served as ambassador to the Republic of Turkey from July 2003 to June 2005, was nominated to be the Pentagon's policy chief by President Bush on May 16, 2005.
