The Friday, November 12, 2004, issue of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC's) Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) announces the 28th Anniversary of the Great American Smokeout to be observed Thursday, November 18, 2004. The MMWR also contains articles entitled “Specific Prevalence of Current Cigarette Smoking Among Adults—United States, 2003” and “Indoor Air Quality in Hospitality Venues Before and After Implementation of a Clean Indoor Air Law—Western New York, 2003.”

The American Cancer Society (ACS) will sponsor the 28th Annual Great American Smokeout to encourage nearly 46 million adult smokers in the United States to quit smoking for at least 24 hours in the hope that they may remain forever smoke free.
