From March 2003–February 2008, the
New Jersey Department of Education received funding from CDC’s Division of
Adolescent and School Health to provide HIV prevention education and conduct
the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS).For information on New Jersey's

Past Program Activities
Provided HIV
Prevention Education
- Provided professional development workshops for teachers on how to
implement health education and HIV prevention education curricula for
students in grades K-8.
- Provided customized professional development workshops to
instructional staff members of the New Jersey Juvenile Justice
Commission and the New Jersey Department of Human Services.
- Served on the Governor’s Advisory Council on Adolescent Pregnancy
Prevention and supported the New Jersey HIV prevention community
planning group by providing information and guidance on related New
Jersey Department of Education programs and policies.
Conducted the Youth Risk Behavior Survey
- Collected YRBS data that are representative of students across the
state in grades 7−12.
- Created a YRBS data summary document and distributed it to key
stakeholders and decision makers throughout the state.
- Used the YRBS results to improve program planning.
