From March 2003–February 2008, the
Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) received funding from CDC’s
Division of Adolescent and School Health to provide HIV prevention education
and conduct the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS).For information on

Past Program
Activities
Provided HIV
Prevention Education
- Developed an evaluation tool to assess comprehensive health
education, disseminating the tool to all health education supervisors,
and providing professional development on how to administer the tool and
use the data collected.
- Provided professional development to increase the capacity of local
school systems to develop effective HIV prevention programs that are based on
nationally published guidelines and resources.
- Expanded HIV prevention efforts to reach school-based health center
staff and school health services staff
Conducted the Youth Risk Behavior Survey
- Disseminated information about the YRBS to key stakeholders.
- Provided support to key stakeholders on the utilization of YRBS
data.
- Provided Maryland YRBS data to all jurisdictions and provided
training regarding its significance for program planning.
