Georgia, 2003–2008
From March 2003–February 2008, Georgia received funding from CDC’s Division
of Adolescent and School Health to provide HIV prevention education and
conduct the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS).For information on Georgia's

Past Program Activities
Provided HIV
Prevention Education
- Provided professional development opportunities to update classroom
health educators on current best practices in HIV prevention,
epidemiology of HIV/AIDS and other STDs, and media influences on youth
sexual behavior.
- Established a cadre of trainers to market, facilitate, and host
professional development events in each region, and providing technical
assistance to local education agencies on their HIV prevention programs.
- Disseminated resource materials to all classroom health educators
on the state’s health education curriculum, universal precautions, HIV
confidentiality requirements, HIV/AIDS statistics, and fact sheets on
HIV/AIDS and other STDs.
Conducted the Youth Risk Behavior Survey
- Collaborated with Georgia’s Department of Human Resources, Division
of Public Health to conduct the YRBS with a random sample of students in
grades 6 –12 across the state.
- Distributed results of the YRBS to local education agencies, local
health departments, youth-serving community-based organizations, and
other key partners.
- Provided training to the training cadre and classroom health
educators on how to use YRBS data as a tool for HIV prevention program
planning and implementation.
