From March 2003–February 2008, California received
funding from CDC’s Division of Adolescent and School Health to promote
coordinated school health and provide HIV prevention education.For information on

Program Activities
Promoted Coordinated School Health with an Emphasis on Physical Activity, Nutrition, and Tobacco
Use Prevention (PANT)
- Provided technical expertise, support, and information related to
proposals for laws, regulations, or policies that promote CSHPs,
particularly in the areas of physical education and physical activity, health education,
nutrition, and healthy school environments.
- Collaborated with three counties to use California’s Health
Framework and Building Infrastructure for Coordinated School Health:
California’s Blueprint to guide the development and implementation of
their nutrition and physical activity programs.
- Partnered with the American Cancer Society to develop and deliver
coordinated school health training institutes for teams from local
school districts and communities.
Provided HIV
Prevention Education
- Disseminated information, data, and research results to support
California’s county offices of education in developing and implementing
quality HIV prevention programs.
- Sponsored training and technical support for professional
development of health educators and staff in HIV prevention education.
- Collaborated with members of the California adolescent sexual
health work group to integrate HIV prevention programs with efforts to
serve high-risk youth and youth of color.
