The Office of Research and Graduate Studies facilitates research and development across the UC system and provides support to faculty and researchers at our ten campuses and three UC-managed National Laboratories.
Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies Steven Beckwith leads the Office of Research and Graduate Studies in these major activities:
- Develops University positions on major policy issues related to research;
- Identifies and develops major research opportunities and initiatives, and provides mechanisms to facilitate them;
- Coordinates activities in Sacramento and Washington D.C., concerning state and federal research projects and legislative matters related to research
- Establishes and oversees the University's policies relating to research and extramural funding programs;
- Fosters research collaboration between the campuses and UC-managed laboratories;
- Administration and review of Multicampus Research Units and Programs;
- Coordinates and staffs meetings of the systemwide Council of Vice Chancellors for Research and the Council on Research.
- Demonstrates the economic benefits and social utility of research to California and the nation.
