Health Promotion
Here is a home scene with a man on his exercise bike. CDC promotes healthy behaviors and safe environments. CDC experts provide information to people about reducing risks to health, such as tobacco use, poor diet, and lack of physical activity. (Be sure to look in the trash can.) CDC also prevents injuries and disabilities by promoting the use of smoke detectors, bicycle helmets, and seat belts, for example. In the parking lot across the street, CDCs National Health and Nutrition Examination van is collecting health information from volunteers to help us understand more about the health status of the American people.

Smoke Alarm
Look at the smoke alarm and "No Smoking" sign. I
guess Joe thinks that he's going to exercise so fast and hard
he'll stir up smoke. Even though Joe does "heat things
up," we know the real reason for the smoke alarm. If a
fire does start, Joe wants to have time to save himself and
of course, save his exercise equipment. To learn more about

NHANES Van
No, Joe's not moving. That's CDC's National Health and Nutrition Examination van parked outside his window. It's there to collect health and nutritional information from volunteers, like Joe, so doctors can learn how to keep America a happy AND healthy place to live. Tune In
Classical, hip hop, jazz or rock? It doesn't matter because whatever the beat, a little music goes a long way to help you "strike the right chord" to make exercising more fun. Or maybe Joe is tuned in to a local radio station where he hears a public service announcement from the CDC. Plant
Ah, fresh air. Well sort of. This plant is giving Joe oxygen in exchange for the carbon dioxide he's giving it. Sounds like a fair deal/exchange to me. And speaking of sounds, be sure to click on Joe's headset.

Let's see, there's a helmet plus arm and knee pads. Now I'm pretty sure Joe doesn't need them when he's inside on his exercise bike... at least I hope not. Trash Can
These donuts, potato chips and cigarettes are right where they belong... in the trash can and not in your body. Look around Joe's room and see if you can locate something to eat that's good for you.
