As I was reviewing the figures, I thought some of you may be interested in this information as well. Last year, approximately 288-312 hours were spent moderating the list. This does not count the hours donated by the guests on the list. Much of that time is spent responding to individual messages sent to me for additional materials and information as well as reading other lists and researching resources to share with you all. The number of subscribers has increased from 689 subscribers this time last year to 875 today, a 27% increase. The year prior to this one, we had experienced a 22% growth. So, this list become more popular as time goes on. Some of the topics discussed during this past year: legislation impacting family literacy, eight year funding for Even Start programs, checklist of skills and knowledge for family literacy providers, children's computer programs, videos used in family literacy, new publications, Even Start funding, recruitment and retention, publications from ERIC, Adult Education name change survey, barriers to family literacy, cross-posts from other NIFL-sponsored lists, CASAS usage, ESL family literacy programs, and book groups in family literacy. Whew! Sounds like we were busy sharing information. And yet, there were only 9 more messages posted to the list than last year....I am wondering what that means. Are folks afraid to post to this list? Are you getting all the information and support you want from the list? Are we all so busy "putting out fires," it is a struggle to find the time to be pro-active? Only a small percentage responded to the survey on this list earlier this summer. Now that I recognize the huge increase in subscribers and yet the zero increase in postings, I just wonder if this list is "filling the gaps and providing the information/resource" necessary. I would love to hear from you all.
