Chris Burnett, President of Nabholz Construction, said the “topping off ceremony” is a tradition started in Scandinavia and Germany hundreds of years ago, when villagers celebrated building a house or barn. “We’re here today celebrating the safety of our workers during the most dangerous phase of the construction -- the construction of the steel framework.”

Amanda Crosswell, president of ISA, which is a student organization for Engineering Technologies students at the university, said the students joined the Okmulgee Police Department in the coat drive to help prevent children from going through the winter without coats.
