The FSCC horse judging team performed well at their first contest this season. FSCC entered seven students into the youth category and two students into the adult category. All three top finishes in the youth category were taken by FSCC freshman. Regina Hodge from Louisburg, Kansas received first place and won $400; Heather Thoele from Lane, Kansas placed second and received $250; and Britta. . .
Cali Griffin, a student at Fort Scott Community College received a special honor by becoming an Academic All-American. Cali qualified for this accomplishment by being a National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association member, having a 3.5 cumulative GPA and qualifying for the 2008 College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming. Cali was one of 30 rodeo contestants from two and four-year schools. . .

Fort Scott Community College has hired John Hill III to be the ‘Hounds new head baseball coach. Hill will take over a strong program at FSCC. “Coach Moddelmog has created a very positive atmosphere here and I wish to continue the high academic standards he has set for his team and the winning record he has accumulated”, said Hill.

Fort Scott Community College’s volleyball team have signed another player for the 2008 season. Camille Becerra is from Merriam, Kansas and attended Christ Prep Academy. Becerra who is a cosmetology student at FSCC will play an Outside Hitter and Defensive Specialist for the Lady Greyhounds.
The Fort Scott Community College baseball team has been ranked as the sixth best academic team in the nation. The team received this honor by having a team GPA of 3.39. The ‘Hounds had a great season on the field this year and with this award have shown they were just as successful in the classroom. Congratulations!
The Fort Scott community College’s softball team held their first annual skills softball camp on July 15th and 16th.

Noni Wharemate was a greyhound from 2000-2002 and she has recently made the New Zealand national women’s basketball team which will compete in this summer’s Olympics.
Wharemate is originally from New Zealand and came to Fort Scott Community College to attend school and play basketball. While at FSCC Wharemate was named to the KJCCC All-Conference first team and the Division VI firs. . .
Gary Hawk, artist of the “Echoes of the Trail” painting print, visited Fort Scott Community College Tuesday, July 15 to present one of his prints to FSCC President Clayton. The print which was donated to the Echoes of the Trail event was given to the college as a thank you for hosting the celebration.
Fort Scott Community College’s director of development Daryl Roller received a special donation from Bourbon County resident Lewis Williams. Williams who is originally from Garland, Kansas and now resides in Redfield, Kansas donated the book, “Stalag Luft IV: Former Prisoner of War – WWII” to FSCC. Williams who is a former POW himself is listed in the book. He was flying over Munich, Germany. . .
