C. Thomas says

"Providing some citations - who is Hayes? -would be very helpful."

I apologize, Catherine. Tony Payton had cited Andrew Hayes in an earlier
posting, so I didn't repeat. He is a researcher and professor at the
University of North Carolina at Wilmington. He has done extensive research
in the area of family literacy for more than 14 years. His work is on file
at the National Center for Family Literacy.

Robert Popp PhD, also a researcher and a knowing member of the family
literacy community, can also be of help. Perhaps we can persuade him to
post
a message on this list, citing some of his research.

Linda Warren, who posted here today, has conducted a three-year study of
Even
Start in MA. with positive outcomes for our field.

There are many more from whom we can get information and statistics that
would benefit our family literacy cause. Even so, that is not enough.

We must, as Jeri Levesque states, show that we are focusing on the areas of
language development and emerging literacy in the early childhood component.
