At a recent NIFL List moderator's meeting in DC, this very question was raised and a consensus was developed by the moderators and Jaleh Behroozi Soroui, the National LINCS Director. 1. NIFL discussion lists are public forums. 2. Messages posted by subscribers are not NIFL's views and positions. 3. NIFL list moderators are facilitators of the list, and should remain neutral. (Which I hope I am doing.) In cases where people post messages regarding advocacy, moderators should make sure discussions stay on the focus of the list. (Which, as the moderator, I believe we have.) To wrap up here is a direct quote from Jaleh: "Regarding Don's question, I don't think we can dictate how people should or can use their time or their agency's property. Every agency may have a different policy, some may allow use of their property for advocacy and some may not. It is up to each individual to know what they can do." And with that, I would say thank-you all, take heed of Don's information as he raises a good point, but rest assured that the NIFL Family List remains a public forum for your use.
