Vista House Restoration
The interior and exterior restoration of Vista House is complete.  An “inclined walkway” to provide wheelchair access to the rotunda is under construction.  A lift providing access from the rotunda to the gift shop and restrooms is forthcoming.

Rowena Crest Pit Restoration
This National Scenic Byway enhancement project is restoring the Rowena Pit by adding material and landscaping with native plants.  It will also improve the beginning of the trail from Rowena Crest to McCall Point.  Earthmoving began in 2005, with planting scheduled for early 2006.  Oregon Parks and Recreation Department is the lead agency, in partnership with ODOT.

HCRH Gutters
This Forest Highway Enhancement project will restore gutters along the Historic Columbia River Highway between Latourell Falls and Dodson.  Pavement will also be repaired through milling and repaving.  Two walls will be repaired.  The wall restoration near Shepperds Dell is expected to close the highway for about 30 days, probably in September 2006.  Construction is expected to begin in late 2005 or early 2006.   The Western Federal Lands Highway Division of the Federal Highway Administration is responsible for this project.

HCRH Interpretive Sites and Signs
This Forest Highway Enhancement project will enhance two gravel parking areas and install 12 additional interpretive signs along the HCRH.  The parking areas are in Cascade Locks at the intersection of WaNaPa and Forest Lane and in Hood River at the intersection of the HCRH and Oregon 35.  Construction will occur in 2006.

Oneonta Gorge Parking and Vista
This Forest Highway Enhancement project will upgrade the parking for Oneonta Gorge, reopen the Oneonta Tunnel and reinforce the Oneonta Creek Bridge.  Construction is expected in 2006.

Eagle Creek Exit Ramp
This Forest Highway Enhancement project will change striping on the Eagle Creek Exit Ramp to provide a contra-flow bike lane connection to the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail.  The Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area office of USDA Forest Service will design and construct this project.    Construction is expected in 2006.

Crown Point Viaduct
This Forest Highway Enhancement and Transportation Enhancement project will restore the sidewalk viaduct around Crown Point.  Construction is expected in 2007.

Latourell
This Forest Highway Enhancement project will enhance the upper and lower viewpoints of Latourell Falls.  Oregon Parks and Recreation Department will design and construct this project.  Construction is expected in 2008.

Wahkeena
This Forest Highway Enhancement project will upgrade the ends of the Return Trail between Wahkeena and Multnomah Falls.  The Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area office of USDA Forest Service will design and construct this project.  Construction is expected in 2009.

Warrendale to Moffett Creek
This reconnection project is the missing link to complete the section of the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail between the frontage road in Warrendale and the 1915 Moffett Creek Bridge.  While ODOT has begun preliminary engineering, there is no construction funding currently available for this project.

Viento
This project will complete the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail between Starvation Creek and Viento state parks.  Currently the Viento end is gravel and steeper than the maximum 5 percent grade recommended for wheelchair access.  ODOT is beginning preliminary engineering in 2005, however, no construction funding is currently available.
