American Hazardscapes: The Regionalization of Hazards and Disasters
American Hazardscapes examines the risks associated with living and owning property in diverse regions across the United States, offering dual perspectives: that of the geographer and that of the social science hazards researcher.

Disasters by Design: A Reassessment of Natural Hazards in the United States
Dennis S. Mileti and the Assessment of Research and Applications of Natural Hazards participants authored this book as an activity of the International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction. The writings of this book highlight the need for a nationwide hazard and risk assessment as a way to determine changes within the physical, social, and constructed systems. This information is necessary to estimate hazards both interactively and comprehensively to support local efforts on sustainable mitigation.

Environmental Hazards
This is an innovative, interdisciplinary and international peer-reviewed research journal addressing the human and policy dimensions of hazards.

Hazards, Disasters and the U.S. Emergency Management System: An Introduction (working draft)
This course focuses on hazards; a historical overview and the fundamentals of emergency management; and the roles that federal, state, and local governments; business and industry; and volunteers play in emergency management.

Natural Disaster Management
The Inter-American Development Bank, Sustainable Development Department is working to reduce risk and vulnerability to natural disasters.

Natural Hazards Review – SPECIAL ISSUE: Application of Vulnerability Assessment Techniques in the Americas.
This American Society of Civil Engineers peer-reviewed journal includes a selection of articles composed by authors who presented case studies at the VAT I and II workshops. To obtain a copy, please call 1-800-548-2723 (in the United States and Canada) or 1-703-295-6300 (other locations).

Reducing the Impacts of Coastal Hazards
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) reports on how the increase of population and development in coastal high risk areas is contributing to greater disaster damage and loss, and how hazard mitigation is reducing these impacts.

Risk Analysis
This peer reviewed journal provides a focal point for new developments in risk analysis for scientists from a wide range of disciplines. The journal covers topics of great interest to regulators, researchers, and scientific administrators. It deals with health risks, engineering, mathematical, and theoretical aspects of risks, and social and psychological aspects of risk such as risk perception, acceptability, economics, and ethics.

Jaeger, Carlo C., and others. 2001. Risk, Uncertainty, and Rational Action. Stylus Publishing, LLC. Herndon, Virginia.
In this volume, four risk researchers present a fundamental critique of the prevailing approach to understanding and managing risk – the "rational actor paradigm." They show how risk studies must incorporate the competing interests, values, and rationalities of those involved and find a balance of trust and acceptable risk.
