Statement by OSHA Administrator John Henshaw on the 2002
Lost-Worktime Injuries and Illness Data
WASHINGTONAssistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational
Safety and Health John Henshaw today released the following statement regarding
the characteristics of Lost-Worktime Injuries and Illnesses in 2002 released
today by the U.S. Department of Labors Bureau of Labor Statistics
(BLS):
Todays report from BLS helps us position our outreach and
enforcement resources where they will have the most benefit for workers and
employers.
We continue to focus on occupations and workplaces where
injuries and illnesses remain high, including construction, manufacturing and
nursing. We are also making good progress in addressing musculoskeletal
disorders, moving forward with Secretary Chaos comprehensive approach on
ergonomics.
We are pleased with the advances were making, but too many
workers are still being injured on the job. Our goal is to make it possible for
all workers to go home safe and healthy every day.
