Governor Signs Army Community Covenant

Joined by soldiers, veterans and community leaders, Governor Lingle signs the Army community covenant.

The Governor expressed her appreciation for the service of soldiers at home and abroad, as well as their families, to the 40,000 spectators gathered at the annual Schofield Barracks 4th of July Spectacular.

"It is my honor to sign this community covenant as a symbolic and heartfelt sign of our support," the Governor said.  "I'm so grateful that in Hawai`i, the military is a part of our `ohana, and this community covenant shows just that."

The community covenant signing ceremonies are part of a new nationwide initiative by the Army to acknowledge the tremendous support local communities provide to the military. The initiative is designed to foster and sustain state and local community partnerships to improve the quality of life for soldiers and their families, both at their current duty stations and as they transfer from state to state.
