It's
a miserable day. The weather changes from snow to rain and
your farmstead is muddy, too.
Grinding
feed is on today's agenda, so you set up the mixer as best
you can on the muddy lot. A quick check of the PTO guard,
and you're ready to get started.
Wrong.
The
muddy, wet, and possibly icy conditions can make footing unsure.
One slip and you're next to the power take-off unit. No guard
can help in that situation.
Always
check for secondary hazards whenever you use farm machinery
or equipment. Spilled grain or feed, manure, ice, and mud
can be as hazardous as the power take-off unit.
Don't
take chances. Clean up the work area. Keep your distance from
powered equipment. Use extra precautions in marginal conditions.
