DALLAS, TEXAS MAN SENTENCED FOR FEDERAL DRUG AND FIREARMS VIOLATIONS

(Texarkana, TX)  United States Attorney Becky Gregory announced today that a 51 year old Dallas, Texas man was sentenced for federal drug and firearms violations in the Eastern District of Texas. 


            RICKY LEE SMITH was sentenced to 70 months for possession with intent to distribute at least 80 grams of methamphetamine and to 60 months for the use and carrying of a firearm during a drug trafficking crime.  The sentences are to run consecutively to each other, resulting in a 130 month term of imprisonment.  During his plea hearing, Smith admitted that he knew methamphetamine and firearms were in the vehicle he was driving.  Smith was sentenced today during an appearance before United States District Judge David Folsom.

 
            This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).  The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Denise Simpson.
