TEXARKANA, TX – United States Attorney Rebecca A. Gregory announced today that a 66-year-old Texarkana, Texas man has pleaded guilty to federal sex offender registry violations in the Eastern District of Texas.

HAROLD WAYNE LEWIS pleaded guilty to the felony offense of Failure to Register as a Sex Offender today before United States Magistrate Judge Caroline Craven.

According to information presented in court, Lewis was convicted of 2nd Degree Sexual Assault in Miller County, Arkansas, on September 9, 2003.  Lewis was notified by authorities that he was required to register as a sex offender.  However, Lewis traveled in interstate commerce from Arkansas to Texas, and failed to register as a sex offender with any local authorities, in direct violation of the Adam Walsh Act.  Lewis was indicted by a federal grand jury on August 5, 2008.

Lewis faces up to 10 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000.00.  A sentencing date has not been set.

This is being investigated by the United States Marshals Service and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Denise Simpson.
