DALLAS MAN GUILTY OF FEDERAL DRUG CRIMES

            TYLER, TX – United States Attorney Rebecca A. Gregory announced today that a 23-year-old Dallas man has pleaded guilty to drug violations in the Eastern District of Texas.
 
ALFREDO LIRA admitted to possession with the intent to distribute and distribution of more than 5 grams of methamphetamine today before United States Magistrate Judge John D. Love

            According to information presented in court, Lira possessed 219.4 grams of methamphetamine and a firearm in Wills Point, Texas on June 18, 2002.  A 5-count federal indictment was returned on February 4, 2003, charging Lira and 4 co-defendants with federal drug violations. 

Lira faces up to 40 years in federal prison and a fine up to $2 million.  A sentencing date has not been set.
  
            This case is being investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Bill Baldwin.
