FLORIDA MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO FEDERAL DRUG VIOLATIONS

(Beaumont, TX)  United States Attorney Becky Gregory announced today that a 23 year old Ocala, Florida man has pleaded guilty to federal drug violations in the Eastern District of Texas.

 
            BRIAN KEITH HUBBARD pleaded guilty today during an appearance before United States Magistrate Judge Earl Hines.  A sentencing date has not been set.

       
            According to information presented in Court, in August, 2006, police stopped Hubbard for a traffic violation as he was traveling on IH-10 in Orange, Texas.  Officers asked for and received permission from Hubbard to search his vehicle.  During the search, officers discovered $21,000.00, banded together in lots of $1,000.00, in a manner consistent with drug trafficking.  Hubbard also had $5,000.00 on his person at the time of his arrest.  Hubbard admitted that he was transporting the funds from Florida to Texas for the purpose of purchasing marijuana, to be distributed upon his return to Florida.  Further investigation revealed that Hubbard had previously been stopped in Orange, Texas in April of 2006.  During that stop, Hubbard also consented to a search of his vehicle, which led to the recovery of $32,160.00, banded together in lots of $1,000.00.  Hubbard admitted these funds were also for the purpose of purchasing marijuana for distribution in Florida. 


            This case was investigated by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).  The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney John Craft.
