HOUSTON MAN GUILTY OF FEDERAL DRUG CHARGES

            (BEAUMONT TX)      United States Attorney Rebecca A. Gregory announced today that a 19-year-old Houston man has pleaded guilty to drug violations in the Eastern District of Texas.
 
            edwin yobony herrera, of Houston, admitted to possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine today before United States Magistrate Judge Thad Heartfield.

            According to information presented in court, on April 9, 2008, Herrera was stopped by a Department of Public Safety trooper in Dayton, Texas.  A search of Herrera's vehicle revealed a one-pound package of methamphetamine.  Herrera was indicted by a federal grand jury on April 16, 2008.

            Herrera faces up to 40 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $2 million.  A sentencing date has not been set.

This case is being investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Texas Department of Public Safety and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Robert L. Rawls.
