FORMER UNION PRESIDENT GUILTY OF EMBEZZLEMENT

(TEXARKANA, TX) United States Attorney Rebecca A. Gregory announced today that a 43-year-old former labor union president has pleaded guilty to embezzlement in the Eastern District of Texas.

WILLIE CHAMBERS, III, of Texarkana, Texas, admitted to embezzlement and theft of labor union assets today before United States Magistrate Judge Caroline Craven.

            According to information presented in court, Chambers was the former President of the Red River Army Depot International Guards Union of America Local 124.  During the time period of January 18, 2007 through July 31, 2007, Chambers stole approximately $6,805.00 from the union.  An Information was filed on July 17, 2008 charging Chambers with embezzlement and theft.

            Chambers faces up to 5 years in federal prison, a fine of up to $10,000.00 and restitution in the amount of $6,805.00, at sentencing.  A sentencing date has not been set. 

This case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Denise Simpson.
