FLORIDA MAN SENTENCED FOR FEDERAL DRUG CRIMES

(BEAUMONT, TX)   United States Attorney Rebecca A. Gregory announced today that a 35-year-old Miami, Florida man has been sentenced to 37 months in federal prison for drug violations in the Eastern District of Texas.
 


ERIC JEFFREY BARRON pleaded guilty on December 20, 2007 to being involved in a conspiracy to distribute marijuana and was sentenced today to 37 months in federal prison by United States District Judge Thad Heartfield.

           
            According to information presented in court, on August 19, 2007, Barron was stopped on IH-10 in Jefferson County, Texas and found to be in possession of over 50 kilograms of marijuana.  Barron was indicted by a federal grand jury on September 6, 2007.

            This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, and the Houston Police Department and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Robert L. Hobbs.
