The HIV/AIDS Surveillance and Epidemiologic Research Program is part of Public Health-Seattle & King County. The Program conducts state-mandated HIV and AIDS case reporting activities and public health research regarding the epidemiology, natural history, transmission and control of HIV, hepatitis B (HBV) and C (HCV) viruses, and other diseases of public health importance. - Variant, Atypical, and Resistant HIV Surveillance Project (VARHS)
The objectives of VARHS are to monitor the frequency of important antiretroviral resistance mutations, follow the outcomes of those with and without mutations, and measure the prevalence of different HIV-1 viral strains/types.
