		Professional Development and Certification
Coordinator
		Equipped for the Future National Center
		Position Announcement
		Equipped for the Future, an initiative of the
National
Institute for Literacy, was developed to answer the complex question:
What
do adults need to know and be able to do in order to carry out their
roles
and responsibilities as workers, parents and family members, and
citizens
and community members.  Sixteen Equipped for the Future Standards
have been
identified through a careful research process.  The sixteen EFF
Standards
represent the core skills needed for effective adult performance in
the
three major adult roles in today's rapidly changing world and are a
new
definition of literacy for the 21st century.  
		The Equipped for the Future National Center at the
University of Maine was created in 1999 as the staff development,
materials
and technical assistance center for EFF implementation.  The EFF
National
Center's primary responsibility is to reach out and establish strong
linkages with key partners, including adult education, family
literacy,
welfare to work, skill standards voluntary partnerships and other
workforce
development systems, and to assure that these partners have the
support
needed to integrate EFF as part of their effort to prepare their
systems to
deliver desired results.  To accomplish this, the Center activities
include:
develop a national network of certified EFF trainers; develop
materials and
products to support EFF adoption and use; provide customized training
and
technical assistance to the key customer systems; and support current
EFF
users.
		The EFF National Center is looking for a Professional
Development and Certification Coordinator to join the Center team. 
The
purpose of the position is to manage and support the EFF
facilitator/trainers and the EFF facilitator certification process. 
The
major responsibilities of the Coordinator will be to:
		1.	Set the direction of the EFF
facilitator/trainer
certification system and develop action plans to carry out the
direction; 
		2.	Oversee the development of the EFF
facilitator
certification process, criteria and awarding of certification; 
		3.	Provide professional development, technical
assistance and support for EFF facilitators as they proceed through
the
certification process; 
		4.	Identify gaps in the facilitator pool and
recruit
qualified individuals to fill the gaps;
		5.	Identify materials and products that support
the
certification process and EFF facilitators; 
		6.	Plan regular institutes and other mechanisms
to
ensure the EFF facilitators are well educated about EFF; and
		7.	Institute a continuous improvement process to
evaluate the effectiveness of the certification system, professional
development, technical assistance and support of EFF facilitators
and
overall facilitator satisfaction with the system . 

		The EFF Professional Development and Certification
Coordinator should have the following knowledge and skills:
		Required:
*	Master's degree and demonstrated experience in
			Adult Education, Training or related field
*	Extensive experience in adult education and training, with
some
knowledge of literacy issues
*	Knowledge of current research and state of the art practice
in
training and professional development
*	Knowledge of certification processes
*	Demonstrated experience with providing staff development,
presentations and/ or training on a national level
*	Demonstrated experience with managing a staff development
system
*	Demonstrated experience providing training, technical
assistance and
support to internal customers
*	Demonstrated experience with creating a team approach to the
work
environment
*	Knowledge of standards and standards-based reform
*	Demonstrated organizational abilities and high level of self
direction
*	Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal
skills
*	Demonstrated computer and internet abilities
*	Ability to travel extensively on a national basis requiring
overnight stays and normally requiring a driver's license
*	Demonstrated ability to write progress reports
*	Demonstrated ability to produce work on or before deadlines

			Preferred:
*	Demonstrated work with national projects, boards and
organizations
*	Demonstrated ability to direct a nationally distributed
project
staff

		This position is supported by federal funds, and is
dependent on continued funding and job performance.  The position is
for 3
years, renewable on a yearly basis.  The salary range is
$45,000-$52,000,
with a generous benefits package, based on education and experience.
Applicants must commit to spending a total of 30 days distributed
throughout
the year at the University of Maine.
