Data Library Formats and Coordinate System Information
Viewing Files and File Formats
GIS data files are generally compressed with a zip utility. If needed, you may download a free unzip utility from the uunet  archive. Spatial Data Library data sets use the statewide projection standard endorsed by the Oregon Geographic Information Council.

After downloading the file:
  • UNZIP the file with WINZIP or PKUNZIP.
  • Load the data set  into a software program that recognizes the file formats.
If you do not have the required software, a free program, ArcGIS Explorer, can be downloaded from ESRI.

Data Library File Formats
  • Shapefile
  • ARC/INFO export file (e00)
  • GRID
  • geodatabase
  • TIFF
  • MrSID
