NIFL Announces New Grantees for LINCS Content Development Partners

The National Institute for Literacy (NIFL), in collaboration with the
U.S.
Department of Education's Office of Vocational and Adult Education
(OVAE),
has awarded nine new LINCS Content Development Partner grants to
organizations specializing in adult education and literacy. The
grants are
awarded for a three-year period starting October 1, 2000.

The purpose of this project is to establish a first generation of
Content
Development Partners to extend the work of the Literacy Information
aNd
Communication System (LINCS) in developing subject-oriented Special
Collections of Internet-based resources for adult education and adult
and
family literacy practice. The Content Development Partners will
maintain,
refine, and enhance the existing LINCS Special Collections by
locating,
evaluating, and organizing Web-based resources and Web-based pointers
to
other materials (videos, research reports, etc.). These partners
will work
in collaboration with National LINCS staff and staff at the LINCS
Regional
Technology Centers (whose grantees will be announced in a separate
posting).

The LINCS Special Collections will be maintained by the following
grantee
organizations:

*	The new Assessment Special Collection will be developed by the
Ohio
Literacy Resource Center.
*	The Correctional Education Special Collection will now be
maintained
by the Correctional Education Association.
*	The Adult ESL Special Collection will now be maintained by
California Literacy, Inc., in partnership with Laubach Literacy
Action,
Western/Pacific LINCS, and World Education, and will include
resources on
citizenship and civic participation.
*	The Family Literacy Special Collection will continue to be
maintained by the Ohio Literacy Resource Center.
*	The Health & Literacy Special Collection will continue to be
maintained by World Education, Inc.
*	The Literacy & Learning Disabilities Special Collection will
now be
maintained by the Center for Literacy Studies.
*	The newly combined Science & Numeracy Special Collection will
be
maintained by Western/Pacific LINCS in California (in collaboration
with
practitioners Susan Cowles and Nancy Markus).
*	The Technology Training Special Collection will now be
coordinated
by the Adult Literacy & Technology Network and the Sacramento County
Office
of Education.
*	The Workforce Education Special Collection will continue to
be
maintained by the Center for Literacy Studies.

The NIFL will continue to maintain the Policy & Legislation Special
Collection and to work with the Equipped for the Future National
Center In
keeping the EFF Special Collection updated. LINCS staff members are
also
working with other national partners to develop additional special
collections.
