GIS Maps and Data

The contents of the Fishlake National Forest GIS website are available in ESRI shapefile format. All data are spatially referenced in the UTM zone 12 projection, NAD83 datum, with units set in meters. For consistency, the datasets available online are packaged in .ZIP files to conserve space and facilitate download. To use them, unzip them using gzip, winzip, or another compression software that recognizes the .zip file type, into an appropriate working directory. All shapefile components (.SHP, .SHX, .DBF, .PRJ, and .XML) must reside in the same folder.

Unless otherwise noted, all datasets are single, forest-wide coverages. The data represent the best data currently available for the forest, compiled from a variety of sources. However some spatial information may not meet the U. S. National Map Accuracy Standards. Some layers have limited information for privately-owned inholdings but no special effort was made to collect all data on private inholdings..

The Fishlake National Forest may update, correct, or otherwise modify this GIS data without notification to anyone who may have retrieved it previously. Data should not be changed or modified by anyone other than the originating National Forest. The Forest Service does not guarantee the accuracy, currency, or content of any of this data when used for purposes other than those intended by the Fishlake National Forest.
