An outgrowth of the ONIX TOC initiative is the creation of records that contain publisher’s descriptions of books. Based on ONIX encoded materials, file creation and linking is similar to that of the ONIX TOC initiative above. To date, the project has created approximately 110,000 such records, although links are currently made from the catalog record only in an ongoing fashion.
To illustrate something of the nature of descriptions, readers will find a static example here, and one that accesses the LC Online catalog here.
At present the Library receives ONIX data for TOC and/or descriptions from many distributors, who represent multiple publishers and/or subsidiaries. Some of them are shown here by way of example, and a fuller list of distributors and publishers who have supplied or who are contributing ONIX data may be found here.
