When Does the Going-to-the-Sun Road Open?
Parts of the Going-to-the-Sun Road are always open, but as is always the case, the opening date of the alpine section of the road is dependant on the weather and the amount of snow encountered by the plowing crew. This season they are encountering heavy snows. We are not able to predict when the upper portions of the road will open for the season, but anticipate it to be sometime mid to late June. For pictures of the plowing activity visit the Photos and Multimedia section of the website.

Did You Know?
Did you know that 8" of snow fell during one night in Glacier's high country in August, 2005? The weather forced hundreds of backpackers out of the backcountry.
