Glacier National Park is part of the United States Government. We welcome volunteers from any country in the world (non-citizens cannot be hired into paid Federal positions). Most positions are available during our summer season. Some volunteer positions are provided government housing at no cost to the volunteer (utilities except telephone, are included). A few international volunteers may receive reimbursement for some of their out-of-pocket expenses. Our international volunteers may do wildlife biology, ecology, botany, integrated pest management, etc.
Please read the information at: www.nps.gov/oia/topics/ivip.htm should you wish to volunteer with the National Park Service. You must find a supervisor to host you and it is a long process to receive a J-1 (training) visa from our International Affairs Office in Washington, D.C. If you are interested in being a volunteer, you may find a volunteer application at www.nps.gov/archive/tarp/volunteerapp1.htm. Please complete it and send it to the following address: Glacier National Park, ATTN: Human Resources, PO Box 128, West Glacier, MT. 59936.
You may also apply to the Student Conservation Association (SCA). The deadline for summer positions will be March 1st of each year. They place individuals in various land management agencies, including the National Park Service. Their address is: Student Conservation Association, 605 13th Avenue, Seattle, Washington 98122, or at www.sca-inc.org.
You may want to contact Glacier Park Incorporated. They are the main concessionaire in Glacier National Park and they hire non-citizens to work in the historic lodges, gift stores, and restaurants. Their website is www.glacierparkinc.com and phone number is 406-892-6737.
Should you have any questions regarding the J-1 visa, please feel free to e-mail us.
